I am getting the hang of finding my hive triggers and getting the outbreaks under control and preventing them. Definitely food and heat are triggers for me. I notice if my skin is dry and irritated to begin with my hives outbreaks are more severe and last longer. One thing I have learned is that if my skin is feeling dry and irritated I can develop small clusters of hives on my shoulders and upper arms and forehead after showering. (Heat/steam is one of my hive triggers). I have been trying to keep my skin as moisturized as possible. I finished my course of six shots in Nov. On average most people start to see the results of xolair after the third shot. I didn't notice any difference in my hives until after the 5th shot. It all started last fall with what I assumed was a skin rash mainly on my neck, shoulders, upper arms and chest. Whenever I discover something that helps with pain I have to share it. We recently ordered a pso-spine and I have been amazed at how quickly I felt results. I have a lot of neck/shoulder pain because I hold a lot of tension in my thoracic spine (my physical therapist always had to release my T5 vertebrae during my mysofacial appointments). Laying my upper back on the pso-spine really helps skhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16903437062864586649noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5348558372623696893.post-41731481214014254352015-06-18T14:10:00.001-04:002017-08-23T18:11:46.617-04:00Building The Perfect Smoothie
Remember when I shared with you that I was starting to make smoothies? I promised some recipes once I perfected them and those are coming. Before I share some of my favorite concoctions I thought I'd pass along a few tips I've learned.
Above is a visual "formula" for my smoothies. I've detailed each "layer" below. The other morning Mr.Surly called me with, as he said “good news and bad news.” Is it just me or do you hate when someone says this. Usually, I like to get the bad news first so I can end on a happy note.
However, it was so early in the morning and I am in the midst of a medication dosage reduction that I told him to choose the order. I have always wanted to have a sleep study done. I have been an insomniac for as long as I can remember and as I got older I developed restless leg syndrome (RLS), or as Mr.Surly affectionately calls it “jimmy legs.” Neither of this worried me nor warranted a sleep study.
However, after being diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome (2010) a sleep study actually made sense. Well, we are still slowly transitioning into the Paleo diet. Mr.Surly is following it stricter than I am. I'm finding it a bit stressful to think of various meals that fit the criteria. Out of all the tasty treats Starbucks offers my favorites are the Pumpkin and mini vanilla scones. Good Lord, they are so freaking good. So you can imagine my excitement when I saw this pin on Pinterest for the recipe. The first time I made them they were cakey and soft. They tasted good but weren't the texture a scone should be. Well, turkey bacon to be exact. Which is still bacon, which means, to me, it's evil. I have always hated the taste and smell of bacon, even as a child. I have wanted to make stuffed peppers for a long time. I didn't want any greasy sausage or ground beef; my stomach is not tolerating fat at all right now. Instead, I wanted something healthy and filling for my peppers. I just made this up with different grains I needed to get rid of in my pantry and some of my favorite spices.
I started off with 1 cup of broth, kept an eye on the rice to skhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16903437062864586649noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5348558372623696893.post-74891456729125320092012-09-27T16:02:00.001-04:002013-02-20T14:12:43.513-05:00Coffee Cake Muffins for Two
I made these muffins when I didn't feel like making our usual Saturday breakfast. I was too tired to make anything complicated, just something easy. I had these muffins bookmarked for awhile, now I finally had the opportunity to make them. I think next time I would sprinkle some walnuts on top or add them into the batter.
These were so good, Mr.Surly was sad to discover I only made 4. So skhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16903437062864586649noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5348558372623696893.post-42038113552824530252012-09-20T14:14:00.000-04:002015-08-03T11:09:56.467-04:00Veggie Pot Pies
My fatigue has been really bad lately. I have been running around to the hospital for appointments and tests, picking up prescriptions, and trying to keep Mr.Surly fed. Recently, I have been brainstorming easy, heathfull, quick dinners. This was just one of my ideas.
If I didn't feel so exhausted and worn out every minute of the day, I would have made my own pie crust. I have seen many recipes for the single serve 2 or 5 minute mug cake. I admit I was a bit leery of them; I didn’t think they could taste very good. Oh, how wrong I was.
A month or so ago I was craving some kind of chocolate dessert. One problem, I was out of eggs, a key ingredient. I look at numerous websites, looking at recipes, trying to find a non-egg version. No luck. No problem, I skhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16903437062864586649noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5348558372623696893.post-47707218353723910132012-08-09T14:41:00.004-04:002013-02-20T15:00:31.102-05:00Fresh Strawberry Cake
I’m still slowing getting back into the swing of things. It took me 2 days to recover from the drive up north for my uncle’s memorial. Then, we get back and I discover I’m out of one of my medications. I spent that day going through horrible withdrawal; shaking, headaches, rocking back and forth. Not fun. The pharmacy, God bless them, expedited my refill when I explained the situation.

I am constantly thinking of new ways to prepare chicken. Since raw meat makes me squeamish, I like coatings on chicken when preparing to hide the sight of the raw meat.
I like the idea of an oatmeal coating. I am trying to eat low gluten to help my stomach bloat and I bought rolled oats from Trader Joe’s that claim to be gluten free.
