Spicy Hot Bloody Mary

Pin It Now!

bloodymary1

While on vacation in August, for some reason, someone in Mr.Surly's family got a craving for a Bloody Mary. No one really knew how to make a bloody mary, so Mr.Surly's sister, an aspiring NYC bartender, took charge of the task. The result was delicious; so good, in fact, that once home Mr.Surly requested a bloody mary one Saturday afternoon. I had to text Surly-SIL (sister-in-law) for the recipe. She gave me the ingredient list but I had to play around with the ratio's to get it to Mr.Surly's liking (it took a couple of attempts).

Warning about these; they are hot and spicy. If that isn't your thing, just use regular V8 and maybe omit the creole seasonings.

Spicy Hot Bloody Mary
Printer-friendly recipe
Serving: 1 glass

ice cubes
1 shot (2 oz) vodka
1 tsp lemon juice (fresh squeezed is best)
1 tsp Claussen pickle juice (from kosher dills)
1 tsp Worchestershire sauce
Spicy Hot V8 juice (I used the Spicy Hot low sodium V8)
celery, for garnish

spices, to taste:
Creole seasoning (Tony Chacere's)
sea salt
black pepper
tabasco sauce
garlic powder

Fill your glass half full of ice cubes. Then add the vodka, lemon juice, pickle juice, and worchestershire sauce. Pour in V8 juice until glass is 3/4 full.

Sprinkle with seasonings, adjusting any (or all) ingredients to taste. Then kick back, relax, and enjoy.

YUM!! I love a good bloody mary!! And a spicy one at that!
Found a place in Boise that has a Make-Your-Own-BM-Bar! Brilliant, esp with Bacon Vodka.
I like the looks of this with the pickle juice too. Delightful.

Try a "bloody Maria" using tequila instead of vodka. My personal fave!

judimose-
never heard of a bloody maria before. but i drank my fair share of tequila in college. i no longer have the stomach for it--not even patron. i just shiver at the thought of the smell of it.

Mr.Surly does not share this distaste, so maybe i'll mix it up and make him one sometime.

sally--
i can't take credit for the ingredient list, only the ratios. i have no idea where Mr.Surly's sister got her inspiration for it.

My mom would LOVE this! I think I'm going to have to make her one the next time I go home.

Love it with a citrus vodka or Absolute Peppar. Somewhere out there is a smoked salmon vodka. Delicious! Adding a good Tbsp of vinegar, especially malt is so tasty too!

One of my favourite drinks, a great pick me up, have not tried pickle juice before.

I had my first real Bloody Mary about a year ago, and it is SO GOOD! Since then, I always get Bloody Mary mix on airplanes (I'm sure it's not as healthy as your version--tons of sodium, as the can itself proclaims--but delicious even without the vodka).

@cameronso glad you love it. I have recently been adding Angostra bitters to it, just because i need to use up the bottle.
