Salsa

This post marks Mr. Surly’s cooking debut. Are you as excited as I am? I'm always happy when he makes food. And this time I was able to photo document it, though I don't think he was too happy to have me hovering around with a camera, even though I tried to stay out of the way.

This salsa is so good and so simple; it's his family's recipe.

It's just peppers....

Mr. Surly’s Salsa
Printer-friendly recipe

2 (28 oz) cans crushed tomatoes
2 jalapenoes
2 Hungarian (large banana) peppers
4-6 Roma tomatoes
1 small yellow onion
1 lime
1 (5 oz) bottle hot sauce
Bunch of cilantro

Pour both cans of crushed tomatoes into a large bowl, set aside.

De-seed all the peppers (I like to do this with a small spoon so my fingers and nails don’t burn). Put in food processor.

Quarter the onion and add to the food processor along with the peppers. Pulse until finely chopped.

Add to bowl with crushed tomatoes.

Cut Roma tomatoes in half and de-seed (again, easy to do with a small spoon)

Add to food processor and pulse a couple times, then add to bowl.

Add a bunch of cilantro, pulse in food processor, then add to bowl

Pour in the entire bottle of hot sauce.

Squeeze in the lime juice.

Add salt and pepper

Taste, and adjust seasonings as necessary.

Stir, allow to refrigerate a couple hours, then dig in.

NOTE: We used the Ninja food processor, which we received as a Christmas gift. We love it; it's like the Magic Bullet on steroids.

Thank you for this recipe. I keep trying out so many salsa recipes but this one with hot sauce addition is different.

Um yes please! I love salsa and I really like how this one is not too chunky.

Looks delicious.
